This One Threw Me…
Got a call the other night from a neighbor inviting me to speak to the local Rotary group today at noon. I have spoken to numerous Rotary organizations over the years. This is my first time as an unemployed drifter. (Like how I threw in “drifter”?)
Not sure what I’ll say today. ”Hi folks! I’m Mike Redding, the uh… um, hmmm… the guy who used to be the Carolina Traveler.” It’ll be strange. I usually tell people about my job and how I become Carolina Traveler. I honestly don’t have any idea what I’ll say today.
Check back this afternoon. I’ll tell you whether I flopped or landed on my feet.
Peace… The Drifter
Yeah… like you’ll flop. That’s happened, oh, …. never.
We tie so much of our self-worth into what we do, we often forget it’s not the job that defines us. The first month of UE is tough… but you get better with it. I did nine months and didn’t become homicidal. But Jane did! :)
I enjoyed your program immensely today at our Rotary meeting. Your foundation in your faith was very refreshing. I was moved by your story of Camp Care. Thank you for sharing your stories. Have faith.
Say it like that guy on the Simpsons … “Hi, I’m Mike Redding! You may remember me as The Carolina Traveler! Or, you might have seen my face in such memorable films as “Spider Beasts from Planet X” and “My Mother the Rutabega!”
