Veteran’s Stories: Best Of
While on the hunt for H1N1 vaccine for Crowley, I flipped on NPR and listened to the Diane Rhem show.
Shortly an archive of today’s show will be available on her website and it is worth your undivided attention.
Guest Host Susan Page interviews two authors/journalists about their recent books on the troops fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. The conversations offer a compelling and insider’s look at what our troops are facing overseas and what it really means when you hear this headline “Two soldiers injured today when a roadside bomb exploded…”
The show quoted top brass as saying that we’ve lost more veterans to suicide since 2001 than we’ve lost on the combined battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. Today’s discussion offered me a deeper understanding of what it means when we say words like ‘bravery’ and ‘sacrifice.’
I also started thinking about The Gratitude Wave and how important it is to spread the word… our words of thanks especially for those who have served and are feeling so hopeless. We are here. We love you. We are a grateful nation.
13 days and counting until the Gratitude Wave. Spread the word. Mobilize your friends, family and coworkers! Want more ideas on how to support our veterans? Check out this story from the Huffington Post!
